I'm Racist...
and I didn't even know it.
CAKE would still be my heroes even if they hadn't played a very CAKEd cover of Buck Owens' "Excuse Me (I Think I've Got a Heartache)," but for that I admire them even more.

I was robbed.
They played Buck Owens over the P.A. in between acts at the Uptown (and a soothing version of DeBussy's "Clair de Lune" in the wake of Gogol Bordello), but the boys didn't cover "Excuse Me," unless I totally wasn't paying attention and thought it was just a song of theirs that I didn't know.
Yeah, I guess they were trying to appeal to some supposed Real Rocky Mountain West faction of which I'm sure we two Wyomingites were the only members in the room, or maybe I should only speak for myself.
Oh, for the soothing qualities of "Clair de Lune;" we got a kooky Rod Keith number with the chorus: "God in his infinite wisdom/ Put Richard Nixon on this earth/ To bring to us his heritage/ One of priceless worth." And there was some Nancy Sinatra, and a lot of disco. Wacky.
